The art

The festival is juried. For 2027, nearly 1,100 artists applied and a five-member blind jury picked 285, the organizer said in September. Categories include painting, photography, sculpture, glass, clay, jewelry, metal, wood, watercolor, printmaking and mixed media. There are no craft vendors.

Camera rule: cameras are allowed, but you may not photograph artists’ work at their booths. Many artists post signs reminding visitors.

Last year’s festival also had live music and mural painting at The Stacks in Peacock Park, the Arts & Drafts beer garden and hands-on children’s art at Inner Artist in Regatta Park. The 2027 program is not out yet; the event programming page will carry it.

Getting there and parking

From the festival information page:

  • Driving: expect traffic on southbound I-95 at Exit 1A for the Rickenbacker Causeway. The organizer suggests State Road 836 west and then 27th Avenue south to the festival, or US 1 to 27th Avenue if you use I-95. Call 511 for traffic updates.
  • Parking: Coconut Grove has garages, metered street parking and private lots.
  • Rideshare: set your destination to “Coconut Grove Arts Festival.”
  • Road closures: the organizer points to the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District for streets closed around the festival. We will add the 2027 list when it is posted.

Since 1963

The festival began in 1963, when publicist Charlie Cinnamon had locals hang art outdoors, Paris style, to promote the Coconut Grove Playhouse’s production of Irma la Douce, the organizer’s history page says. It is run by the nonprofit Coconut Grove Arts and Historical Association, and proceeds pay for year-round arts programs and scholarships for students in local fine arts programs.
