Meet El Espacio 23's three artists in residence at a free open studio, 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 28, as 12 Allapattah galleries and museums open late for Allapattah Night.
El Espacio 23, the contemporary art space in a converted Allapattah warehouse, will open its studios to the public from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, as part of Allapattah Night. Admission is free.
Visitors can meet the space’s three current artists in residence, Gonzalo Guzmán, Ulises Mazzucca and Mariana Rocha, and get what El Espacio 23 calls “a behind-the-scenes look at the work they’ve been creating during their time in Miami.” Rocha’s residency is presented with The55project. Cervecería La Tropical is providing complimentary beer.
A neighborhood open late
Allapattah Night is an evening when galleries, museums and art spaces across the neighborhood open their doors for exhibitions and special programming. The organizers’ poster invites people to “join us for an evening of art and community in Allapattah.”
Twelve venues are taking part:
- Andrew Reed Gallery
- Antonio Urrutia Art
- Baker-Hall
- El Espacio 23
- KDR
- La Cometa
- Mahara+Co
- Mindy Solomon Gallery
- Pan American Art Projects
- Rubell Museum
- TOMAS REDRADO ART
- Voloshyn Gallery

El Espacio 23 was founded by collector and philanthropist Jorge M. Pérez and occupies a repurposed 28,000-square-foot warehouse, according to its website. It holds exhibitions, residencies and special projects drawn from the Pérez Collection. The building has three apartments and a shared workspace for residents, and the residency covers living space, studio space and a production budget. The space’s curatorial team chooses the residents.
Who you can meet

Gonzalo Guzmán is a sculptor born in Madrid in 1991. El Espacio 23 says his work begins with “images that emerge in dreams: reduced, enigmatic presences that seem to exist prior to language, often evoking archetypal structures such as menhirs or dolmens.” He uses hydroforming, an industrial process in which water pressure expands welded sheets of stainless steel from the inside, so that “form emerges through the interaction of pressure, resistance, and material limits.”

Ulises Mazzucca was born in Santa Fe, Argentina, in 1997 and lives and works in Buenos Aires. He studied fine arts at the National University of Rosario and was selected for the ISCP-FAARA residency in New York in 2025. His solo shows include Aniversario de todas mis faltas at Ruth Benzacar Galería de Arte in Buenos Aires this year and Gimnasia Espiritual at the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires in 2021.
Mariana Rocha, born in Brazil in 1988, is a visual artist and teacher in Niterói. El Espacio 23 says her works sit “at the intersections and the relations between drawing and painting; humans and animals; the body and the cosmos.” Her solo exhibitions include Restless Skin at Centro Cultural São Paulo and It has always been the sea at A Gentil Carioca gallery in Rio de Janeiro, both in 2025.
